Hi,

About 15 minutes ago my GitHub Copilot model in VS Code auto‑switched from Claude Sonnet 4.6 to Auto, and now Sonnet 4.6 no longer appears in the model picker at all. I can still see other Claude models (Sonnet 4, Sonnet 4.5, Opus, etc.), just not Sonnet 4.6.

I’m on the GitHub Student plan (Copilot Pro) and I still have plenty of premium requests remaining, so it doesn’t look like a quota/usage issue. I haven’t changed any settings myself; it just switched on its own and the model vanished from the list.

Is this a known issue or outage with Claude Sonnet 4.6, or is this a bug specific to my account/VS Code setup? Any guidance or confirmation would be appreciated.

too bad... I just subscribe for PRO account and they have removed Opus... so goodbye git hub then ...Im going to cancel my subscription... better pay extra 10$ and connect to Opus directly

yes they seems to removed it from pro as well and from the look of it they make it that you have to use the pro+ to get the opus stuff instead

They have removed it from Pro plan too..

They should have it in the Copilot Pro, but I am struggling to get it even though i have upgraded from Copilot Student to Copilot Pro... Tried refreshing VS with no luck.

If you are still on a free trial of copilot pro, the models will not appear because you are still on a 'free' tier. I had a few days of copilot pro free trial left, and needed to change this setting to get the models back:

It's truly sad to see how such a large and important company in the IT sector treats students. The current price of Opus 4.6 is simply unaffordable for students from most countries.

The lack of a better model for students will lead to them falling behind in their education and the development of their projects.

Not the problem of student authenticate account. You have to pay for it if you're using the free trial subscribe. I've just try and it works, only restart might no to solve it.

Got a trial on Github Pro, second day in Opus disappeared. Wtf? Is it comming back? Is it a bug? Is it removed, and if its gone, why do they still promote with it in Pro?

Here is the fix:

if you are a student you need to switch to the Github Pro plan (10 USD monthly or 100 USD yearly)
If you already are Github Pro (paid plan) you need to go to your Github account settings -> Billing and licensing -> Licensing. Go to "Manage subscription" under the green button on the top right and "Start paid plan".
Restart vs code and you'll have it

Claude Opus 4.6 disappeared in GitHub copilot. I have been using GitHub pro subscription. I have not reached the premium request limit. But many models are removed from GitHub copilot.

Very disappointed about the changes because, i enrolled for the membership to use these models.
